STARTER MIX
A unique formula to combat diarrhoea and nest mortality
In poultry farming, there are sometimes high losses of young birds caused by bacterial diarrhoea during the first week of life. Although the parent birds appear perfectly healthy and feed their chicks excellently, diarrhoea can occur and lead to damp nests, as the chicks’ droppings are no longer enclosed in a membrane. In these circumstances, the parents are no longer able to remove the droppings, and so all the nesting material becomes soiled and damp.
The female breeding bird will often develop a damp belly due to damp and soiled nesting material in the nest. The chicks stop growing and die after a few days.
However, it is possible to prevent all this by providing the chicks with a medicine that prevents bacterial diarrhoea. In collaboration with Pantex Holland, Dr Coutteel has developed the product Starter Mix. The treatment is administered via drinking water from the day of hatching (i.e. day 1) and is given to the chicks by their parents for one week.
Aim
- Prevention of nest mortality in young birds during their first week of life (canaries and wild birds).
- Treatment and prevention of bacterial infections causing diarrhoea in birds (canaries and native birds, small psittacines and pigeons).
Usage
Oral administration via drinking water.
Mix 4 grams (1 measuring spoon) of Starter Mix with 1 litre of drinking water.
- To prevent mortality among nestlings: administer daily during their first week of life.
- In the event of diarrhoea: administer for seven consecutive days as a curative treatment.
Change the medicated water daily and provide it as the sole source of drinking water during treatment. At the same time, the feed can be moistened with this water.
Presentation
- 100 g jar, including a measuring spoon.
